The Essence of Article Development and Article Submission

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Content - The internet is stuffed with content. Short literary pieces, long novels, lovely poems, extravagant marketing lines, or simple classified ads – the internet revolves around content. It is one of the more popular, if not the most important, factors in web search technology.

Content plays a vital role in the filing or classifying of different websites according to their different categories. Keywords, existing within a particular content, are some of the driving forces behind Search Engine Optimization and other web technologies implemented by major Search Engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. It is real for many websites that the quality of their page content can affect their search engine rankings as well as audience traffic.

A website with quality and catchy content tends to get more attention online.

Many people online are seeking for quality information from various sources. If your website or article provides the right details that many users need, chances are your website or article would be visited often and would get very good rankings online. However if you have a poorly written article or page content, then users would most likely shun away from your website and just forget about it.

Article Submission is the strategy of sending out articles to article directories so that they can be viewed and shared with other websites online. Article Submission is only an effective strategy if the article or content being promoted is also worth reading. If an article is catchy or well-written then chances are, many websites would love re-posting your article on their web pages. And this is where real action begins.

In the world of SEO or Search Engine Optimization and Online marketing, content that is promoted on other websites tend to benefit the source or the one who wrote the content.

In Search Engine Optimization, if your articles contain various links that point to your website, and if many people re-posted your article with the links on their websites, then you’ve hit a very good goal. For these inbound links coming from your articles on other people’s websites contribute to your page’s SEO score. And the higher your score, the better your rank in the Search Engines.

Article Submission is really effective if you submit quality content to multiple article directories. If you submit quality articles to a hundred article directories everyday, then you’ve created plenty of opportunities for people to have access or to read your article. This does not only help with your marketing, but can also improve your website ranking.

However, it should be duly noted, that your article should be placed under the proper category when submitting it. There are often penalties given to those websites which post or re-post articles which are not categorically related. So it’s best to shun away from that practice.

Another thing to remember when doing article development and article submission is to emphasize on the keywords which relate to your website. Having sufficient and high-quality keywords can impact your article status on various search engines and directories. The more optimized your keyword is, the better the classification and ranking on the search engines.

So remember that creating content or articles online, helps your website. Submitting those articles to various article directories can also greatly affect your website rankings on the Search Engines.

Link Building: One Way Linking Strategies

Friday, September 26th, 2008

Online links and politics – Are there similarities?

There was an earlier article that was developed which likened online websites with real-life communities. That article went so far to try and establish the similarity between real-life neighbors and online reciprocal linking neighbors. Now this article will talk about one way linking and how it is very similar to real-life politicking.

Every person in the planet has his or her own personal views, agendas, and political leanings. Some people may not support a particular politician without getting something from them in return, while some are just avid fanatics of a particular candidate just because they like what that politician represents.

Very similar to one-way links online – most of the well-informed websites would not think of directly linking or supporting another website without getting something (a reciprocating link) in return; while others directly link with a ‘popular’ site just because they like or love the content or what it has to say.

These “politicians” or what can be referred to as Future-High-PR sites often resolve to a lot of politicking or online strategies just to be able to get plenty of support from the masses. One of the more famous online strategies to getting one way links is through email marketing. Telling webmasters that the site or page has something great to offer their online visitors can sometimes prove very tempting and can merit an inbound link. Sending out HTML-based newsletters can also be very useful, especially if the outbound emails can be tracked and can be reconciled with the inbound traffic and generated links.

Another excellent strategy is through social communities. Posting messages on social networks about tempting offers or supporting a group cause do have its merits. Link baits on the social networks will also give the site the opportunity to expose their content more, and thus generate inbound traffic.

Those who will heed the “politicking” of these Future-High-PR sites would want to be closely associated with them, and thus inbound links will be formed. Posting link baits are very common on social networks. Utilizing link baits to get better traffic from a particular social class and age group which may be interested in what you have to say or to the content of your site can be categorized as potential inbound links.

Blog comment posting is also an excellent strategy to gain widespread exposure on blogging networks. Finding categorically related blogs and posting some “useful” message on their comment sections can be very beneficial. And one of the best ways to gain inbound links is by writing articles and submitting them to various article directories, while adding an inbound link to your site on the resource section of the article. That way, people will be able to trace where the article came from.

There are plenty of ways to get one way links. Using white-hat strategies is always encouraged. Black hat strategies can get you penalized or banned. It’s better to read and follow the guidelines set forth by the different search engines to have an idea on how they rank and track different websites online.

BASIC CONCEPTS OF SEO

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

There are some basic concepts that all search services have to follow. They all follow certain concepts because they are all driven by humans and humans are governed by certain laws of nature. While there are many things different about spidering engines compared to human reviewed directories, specifically in terms of scalability, there are some very important things that are the same. They are the same because whether it is a human doing the indexing and categorizing or a computer program, such as a spider, the spider was programmed by a human and therefore, it can only do what a human told it to do within the limitations of the technology available at the time. The spider is going to do it’s best to emulate what a human would do. It will do whatever it is told to do by a human much faster, but without the skills that are unique to the dominant species.

The moral of the story is, if you want to achieve top placements within an index, whether spider based or human reviewed, you simply have to “think” like a human as opposed to trying to “think” like a computer program. Logic, common sense and human civility towards your fellow man, will win out over any computer language every time. You will get more traffic, (and much, much more importantly — sales), by accepting that you are dealing with a real person, not that different from yourself, instead of thinking you are just a username and password trying to trick a computer.

That is not to say that spidering engines do not have weaknesses that can be exploited, (same goes for human reviewed directories but more on that a little later). they certainly do. It is only saying that to really “see” those weaknesses for what they really are, and “see” how to best take advantage of them to enable you to achieve your own placement objectives, it is a great help to be able to first understand how silly things like hidden text, re-directs and a lot of other on page goofiness is. Once you accept that you are dealing with a human being, although it may be once removed, it is easy to understand what that human being was likely trying to accomplish when they programmed the spider in the first place. Understanding and accepting that gives you a huge advantage over your competitors and opens a lot of doors into the mind of the person or persons creating the index.

It so happens that I am one of the most successful placement specialists on the planet. I’m not claiming to be “the best” or to be some kind of “guru”. I am simply telling you that I have a lot of experience in this field and I have a reputation within the industry for a reason. I really can tell you EXACTLY how to get a number 1 spot on virtually any keyword. I’m willing to bet that there are some reading this even now who can attest to my ability by pointing to their own pages at the top based on something I had addressed. I was able to start doing that by learning and accepting those basic concepts I mentioned earlier.

As long as we are going to open a topic like this, I will help where I can and I believe the best help I can give is to share those basic concepts. What you do with those concepts is up to you. One of my favorite quotes is, “I don’t mind telling you where I think the gold is buried but you have to do your own digging”.

I have said many times in the past that I accept no responsibility whatsoever if you use any advice I give and it doesn’t work. I have no control whatsoever over any action that any search service other than SearchKing may take. I have no inside deal with any service outside of the same PPC deal or trusted feed deals than any one of you could get. So, if you do anything based on what I say and it goes badly, don’t blame me!

On the other hand, I have also often said I am more than happy to accept as much credit as you are willing to give if my advice does help. Still, the purpose of my telling you anything that could apply to search service top placement is more in the way of offering some insight into a different perspective rather than just milking a little verbal pat-on-the-back out of someone. I am only relaying my take on things based on my own personal experiences in the hope of motivating grey matter and intelligent discussion, (present author excluded).

As any discussion of techniques used to get to top spots on search services tends to be heated arguments at worst and lengthy, convoluted and self-congratulatory at best, I will try to keep my offerings at a “reasonable”, (completely subjective term), length. I will discuss the few concepts I am relatively sure of one at a time and only start another discussion after the one has run its course. So here goes the first one.

Mysql-Understand your engines

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

MySQL has two primary storange engines: MyISAM and InnoDB. Each has its own performance characteristics and considerations. In the broadest sense MyISAM is good for read-heavy data and InnoDB is good for write-heavy data, though there are cases where the opposite is true. The biggest gotcha is how the two differ with respect to the COUNT function.

MyISAM keeps an internal cache of table meta-data like the number of rows. This means that, generally, COUNT(*) incurs no additional cost for a well-structured query. InnoDB, however, has no such cache. For a concrete example, let’s say we’re trying to paginate a query. If you have a query SELECT * FROM users LIMIT 5,10, let’s say, running SELECT COUNT(*) FROM users LIMIT 5,10 is essentially free with MyISAM but takes the same amount of time as the first query with InnoDB. MySQL has a SQL_CALC_FOUND_ROWS option which tells InnoDB to calculate the number of rows as it runs the query, which can then be retreived by executing SELECT FOUND_ROWS(). This is very MySQL-specific, but can be necessary in certain situations, particularly if you use InnoDB for its other features (e.g., row-level locking, stored procedures, etc.).

Searching For Excluded Words

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Use the minus sign (-) before a word or the word NOT to require that it not be found in the search results. For example, giants -baseball (include a space between the first word and the - symbol) or giants NOT baseball lists sites containing “giants” but not “baseball.” Some engines like AND NOT (two words) or ANDNOT (one word) better than just NOT.

Search Engines vs Directories

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Search engines, such as Google, create their listings automatically. Search engines crawl through the web. Search engines eventually find your site and index the pages they find. Page titles, body text (ie, great content), META tags and other elements all play a role in what gets indexed. People then review the results of what was found by the search engine, based on keywords they type into the search engine.

A directory such as Yahoo! Directory depends on human editors to create its listings. You submit a description of your site to the directory for editors to review. A good site, with good content, will be more likely to get reviewed than a poor site. A search of a directory looks for matches only in that directory’s index.

Yahoo! also has a search engine that includes spidered websites along with their directory listings and “Sponsor Results” which are pay per click ads, similar to Google’s Adwords. Originally Yahoo! displayed only listings from their directory. Then in 2002 they added search engine listings from Google. In 2004 they started using their own search engine based on AltaVista’s technology. A few years later they acquired Overture (formerly GoTo) which was the first pay per click program.

Seo:Choosing A Hosting Company

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Choosing the right hosting company is a must in achieving top search engine rankings for several reasons. First, you want to choose a reputable company that has 99.7% uptime or better so that when the search engine spiders and robots make it to your website, your website will be up and operating. If you hosting company tends to have a considerable amount of downtime, then these spiders and robots may just visit your website when it is down and not come back to it for weeks or months.

This is a huge price to pay for being cheap! In this case, being cheap will cost you more money. It is better to choose a hosting company will give you, say 100mb of disc space for your site (most websites come nowhere near to this size and if they do, they are either a major mega website or they have not been optimized for size or speed properly) and the most bandwidth you can get - 30 or 40 gigs, for instance.

If you go with a cheaper hosting site you may get only 10mb of disc space for your site and 1gig bandwidth. The problem with this scenario is that if you go over the disc space or bandwidth limitations, your hosting company will most likely charge you lots more dough. Sometimes a cheaper hosting company will shut your site down if immediate payment is not made. Once again the search engine spider or robot may just pass your by. So it is better to buy more than you need and not have to worry about limitations.

It is also generally a better idea to purchase your domain name at a different place than you have host your website. Some web hosts will do both, but the problem is if you wish to change hosts some website hosts will charge you a hefty transfer fee for you domain name and may take more time than desirable for the transfer. Having your domain name hosted separately gives you more flexibility.

Free hosts can cost you when it comes to search engine rankings. If you have a company like geocities host your website, most likely your website is called www.geocities.com/yoursite.html or some variation. This is not optimal for two reasons. First, if you exceed your bandwidth for the month, this host will shut down your website and put a fancy little splash screen in place of your website stating you have exceeded your bandwidth.

So, if you website is popular, which most likely is your goal, you will spend more time with your website down to customers and search engine spiders and robots. Second, search engine spiders and robots generally give more weight to your homepage than to your subordinate pages. In this case, your homepage is actually geocities.com and your main page is a subordinate page to this homepage. Most search engines will give your subordinate homepage less weight than someone else’s homepage at yoursite.com.

SEO Tip for Wordpress Titles

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Your PAGE title should include your keywords in order to be optimized for search engines. Your POST title should be catchy and written for your visitors. How do you accomplish this in Wordpress?

Get the SEO Title Tag Wordpress plugin. It allows you to have separate titles for your posts and your pages.

Advanced Tip: You’ll also want to check your post template (single.php) and make sure your post titles are using H2 tags and are linking to your Permalink URL.

This will give your post titles more prominence in the search engines. An example code:

<h2 class=’post-title’><a href=”<?php echo get_permalink() ?>” title=”Permanent Link: <?php the_title(); ?>”><?php the_title(); ?></a></h2>
